Basi Moila

I'm sure my dear friend is going to kill me for this......but who cares (lol). She deserves to be on my blog for her achievements and hard work. I attended high school with this lady and she always used to say "Jam (our friendship name) I am going to be a famous actress in the future." She kept to her promise and is doing much more than acting. Basi Moila will be part of the behind scenes team putting the movie Yefon together. She is part of a superb team of actresses, actors and directors. You know what they say go BIG OR GO HOME! I am so proud of her and to her I say: JAM YA STRAWBERRY KEEP ON PUSHING AND REACHING FOR THE STARS.....love you lots! Oh and trust me when you visit SA a bottle of champagne is waiting for you.

YOU READ AND HEARD ABOUT IT FIRST ON BATLIFESTYLE......I AM PROUD TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE UP AND COMING FUNDRAISING MOVIE....

                                         YEFON

My dear friend Basetsana Moila (an aspiring actress) will be starring in the movie Yefon, when she posted about it on facebook I immediately contacted her, well messaged her and told her to forward me details so that I could share this magnificent story and opportunity for many Africans to help make a difference.

The movie Yefon, based on true events tells a heart wrenching  story of a young African village girl -Yefon's admiration, desire and determination to be educated amidst a society that condemns women to be educated. The village in which she is based believes that women are not allowed to go to school, because the men believe that educated women are bad mothers, bad cooks and bad wives. An American woman visits the village, leading to a  trust filled friendship between herself and Yefon. The white lady takes it upon herself to educate and teach her, however she is not alone in doing so, a young gentleman in which she falls in-love, groom and teach her to read and write. Unfortunately the villagers find out about the girls hopeful achievements, and she gets sentenced to death. Yefon gets thrown into jail and sadly awaits for her death. However "Nancy" her white beloved friend refuses to allow this to happen. Through fights, treason, beliefs, love and friendship, this movie evokes emotions and brings light to the hardship and discrimination that women still face in some rural parts of Africa.

Director and producer Kevin Natera has managed to put together a powerhouse of International actors and actresses in the movie. Our very own Leleti Khumalo (Lead actress of Sararina), Cameroonian Sahndra Fon Dufe (starred in Lost in Abroad), Hakeem Kae-Kazim (one of Africa's top actors appeared in Hotel Rwanda and became popular in the "Fresca" advert), Haitain born Jimmy Jean-Louis (best known for his role as the Haitian in Heroes and acted in tears of the sun), Adriana Barraza ( Mexican film and television actres and television director), Said Faraj ( starred in the movie Green zone), Nigerian Uti Nwachukwu (winner of Big Brother 2010), Nigerian-British actor Kalu Ikeagwu (has featured in a lot of Nollywood movies), New york Jon Gottem (starred in Mexican Gangster) and finally Cameroonian actress Constance Ejuma (know for her work on v series). The inspirational actors and actresses have come together to give the world a memorable yet mind grasping movie that brings together Africans to remind people, that change starts within us first then needs everyone to unite to make a difference.

Speaking about difference this is where YOU my fellow people come in! To make a difference you simply need to go onto www.yefonthemovie.com, and PLEDGE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN....there are fabulous rewards to be won, if  you pledge you stand the chance to have lunch/dinner with  Hakeem Kae-Kazim. Go out there and make a difference or better yet PLEDGE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! The more you pledge the more young girls have hope and stand a chance to have an all girls school built in the village, where the whole movie took place.

The movie will be out In NOVEMBER 2012...I can't wait to see it and of-course see the hard work that my friebd Basi and team have achieved....the excitement and joy that fills my heart when I hear of African people making a difference warms my heart.

Drama Queen

                                                DRAMA QUEEN

The moment I heard of the exciting news about the late Lebo Mathosa's musical production, I cancelled all plans for that Friday night and bought tickets for my better half and I. The opening tickets for the musical were sold out (what else was I expecting). Thank goodness for me I found out that the production produced by Sello Maake Ka-Ngcube will be staged from from the 9 August till  9 September. I decided that seeing the musical early whilst there was still hype and excitement would make me eager to go see it......So I bought tickets for August 10 and made a date with state theatre. I heard and read that the controversial  socialite "Queen of bling" Khanyi Mbau would play the lead actress as Lebo Mathosa, however to my surprise five ladies:  Khanyi Mbau, Ayanda Nhlangothi, Lucia Gumede, Siziwe Ngema and Sindi Nene took centre stage with blonde wigs to emulate the late singer. For some strange odd reason not much publicity or hype circled around the other female actresses and singers......but anyway moving along. Lets not forget the ever so funny actress Chuene who narrated the musical in first person, which really made us connect and get a feel of what Lebo went through. The musical gave us hits from Boom shaka (Thobela), "Free" and many tracks that she released when she was still alive and breathing. Portraying Lebo Mathosa is something not a lot of ladies can do, because there was and will only ever be one Drama Queen, but I have to congratulate Khanyi Mbau  on her dance moves, energy and voice. I never knew that the Queen of bling could belt out such good vocals. And what else can I say except, Sindi Nene DAMNIT THAT LADY CAN SING, for her petite size and frame the power in her voice gave me shivers every time she belted out a tune. The musical got people, including myself singing along and remembering why Lebo was such a star in her own right. The musical went on for three and a half hours and never once did I feel bored or yawned. Well-done to all those dancers who made the musical a success, and to the band that contributed hugely to the success of the show. Seriously from me to you, if your are not doing anything from now till 9 September go out to Pretoria and support our South African Artists who never fail to make us feel Proudly South African.
Sadly I forgot my camera at home....and yes I kicked myself in the a** for it!!

Below are all five singers that portrayed the late Lebo Mathosa

My thoughts.....

When I look at my life I sometimes wish as though I could see my future back in my child-hood days. Well as much as there's no excitement to that, but I sometimes feel as though that would have saved me a lifetime of disappointment and many avoidable obstacles. I am not saying that I fear life itself or the downs and rewarded ups that come along with it, but life itself can another train ride on its own. This week has been and continues to be one of the most emotionally draining, free spirited, mind hogging, thought provoking weeks of my life. I wake up not knowing how to feel or how I'm feeling-literally I JUST WAKE UP AND CONTINUE WITH LIFE. It almost feels as though I am zombie, yet a breathing zombie doing what is necessary-yet I am emotionless to my surroundings. I guess the only reason why I sharing this is because many times I have come across people who have felt this way, and as much as I have gone through my own trials and tribulations; I have never been emotionless. So here it is and here I am standing, and certainly not stuck between a hard place and rock but trying to pick up the pieces of my bland colourless chapter. What else can I do except LOVE.PRAY AND LAUGH!

Here are a few posters that sum up exactly how I am feeling this week.

Moyo-Castle Milk Stout Live Performances

And finally the Olympics have come to an end, although I must admit they went by so quickly- "here today gone tomorrow." Moving swiftly along, it still gives me joy to say that us ladies can continue to celebrate women's month for the whole of August. With that said on Wednesday August 8 2012,me and a dear friend of mine decided to meet for pre-women's day drinks and celebrate it before hand. We opted to go to Moyo in Melrose Arch-Rosebank to watch and enjoy a bit of live performances. Whilst I didn't know the first artist who performed (well maybe I just didn't care) he sang John Legend's "Ordinary People" song superbly. Then of-course the main man himself Kabomo got onto stage and did his thing, which was very short-lived. He also brought along the talented singer Nothende to join him on stage for their collaboration track. Whilst I enjoyed the performances and music, I also got a sneak peak of people's outfits and got to take photographs of those that impressed me (and of-course I stuck to my main theme of my blog; PRINT and COLOUR). I must add that I am not one for white wine, but on this night however I found myself having a glass or two........AND I DOUBT I'LL SIP ON IT EVER AGAIN (LOL).

Mr Vuyo Mse Ngcukana also known as the "Castle Milk Stout yummy Man"

Singer song writer Kabomo and Nothende kept us entertained through the night

Nyiko also know as Ndubble gave us hip hop to dance too after the performances

My lovely lady Penelope Dibate also known as "Penny London" looked ravashing in a bright red-orange jacket, that she got from a lady who buys clothes overseas and sells. For R700 (the price of the jacket) I would also purchase it.....I LOVE IT!

Just had to share a couple of photographs that show our love for eachother-but I must add that these are sexy pics.....lol

When this lady walked I instantly was drawn to her headwrap, black cape and her tribal print bag.

Once again Penelope London rocks my boat with her vintage shoes....LOVE!

Not a lot of black women can rock pink lipstick, but my dear friend does it with class and style.

This subtle blue bag got my attention-i love its simplicity with a splash of colour.
I've got a thing for scarfs and I liked  the way her floral print scarf was not overwhelming or over detailed. It added colour to her outfit.

I not a fur kinda lady, but I could see myself rocking this bag from Guess.

This African beauty and I met in Mozambique last year December, and she always wore fascinating African printed bags, headwraps and pants....she still hasnt lost her african tribal touch

I like the way this lady looks so cool, calm and collected. She put on simple jeans, a bright red t-shirt and navy blue jacke to look formal paired with brown wedged shoes. Then to top it off she added bright subtle orange-brown bag to give her outfit the extra edge......oh and lets not forget the leopard print scarf which added a bit of difference.

Her hairstyle got my attention and then again she looked quite cute in her outfit........

Poor guy got red lipstick all over his manly head wrap....lol, but I liked his look aswell.

That's the dreaded white wine that I will never drink ever again lol

Just had to share my sense of style for the evening.....

Lovely bags that I spotted that were placed next to us....

AND FINALLY THE NIGHT CAME TO AN END.........
